How to Clean Your Washing Machine: Easy Steps for a Fresh, Efficient Appliance

Step 1: Run a Hot Wash Cycle with Vinegar or Cleaner
- Pour 2 cups of white vinegar or a specialized washing machine cleaner into the detergent dispenser.
- Run the machine on the hottest and longest cycle to dissolve residues, kill bacteria, and neutralise odours inside the drum.
- For extra freshness, add half a cup of baking soda to the drum before starting the cycle.
Step 2: Clean the Detergent Drawer
- Remove the detergent drawer and soak it in hot, soapy water.
- Use a soft brush or cloth to scrub away detergent build-up and mould around the compartments.
- Dry thoroughly and replace the drawer in your machine.
Step 3: Wipe the Door Seal and Drum
- Check the rubber door seal for dirt, lint, and mould.
- Wipe it carefully with a cloth dampened with a vinegar-water solution or a mild detergent.
- Leave the door open after each wash to let moisture evaporate and prevent mould growth.
Step 4: Clean the Filter
- Refer to your machine’s manual to locate and remove the filter.
- Clear out any debris or lint trapped inside.
- Rinse and dry the filter before reinserting it.
Step 5: Maintain a Regular Cleaning Routine
- Make it a habit to clean your washing machine every 1–2 months.
- Use less detergent and the correct wash cycles to reduce residue build-up.
- Always leave the door open slightly after use to keep the interior dry.
