How to Unlock the Panasonic Child Lock

Panasonic microwaves include a child lock (sometimes called a safety lock) to prevent accidental use, especially by children. When the lock is on, the control panel becomes unresponsive and you may see “LOCK,” a padlock, or a key symbol on the display.

How to Unlock the Child Lock

For most Panasonic microwave models:

  • Press the “Stop/Reset” button three times in a row.
  • The “LOCK” indicator or lock symbol will disappear, and the time or colon will reappear on the display.
  • The control panel will now respond as normal.

On some newer models, or if the above doesn’t work, try these alternative methods:

  • Press and hold the “Stop/Reset” button for 3–5 seconds.
  • Press and hold both the “Start” and “Stop/Reset” buttons together for a few seconds.
  • Try the sequence:
    • “Auto Defrost” → “Timer/Clock” → “Popcorn”
    • Or: “Turbo Defrost” → “Timer” → “Popcorn”
  • If your model has a dedicated “Child Lock” or “Lock” button, press and hold it for 3–5 seconds.

How to Activate the Child Lock

  • Press the “Start” button three times in a row.
  • The word “LOCK” or a lock symbol will appear on the display, and the control panel will be disabled.

Troubleshooting Tips

  • If the microwave remains locked, unplug it for 1–2 minutes, then plug it back in and try the unlock steps again.
  • Always check your user manual for model-specific instructions, as button combinations can vary.
  • If none of the methods work, inspect the control panel for stuck buttons, or consult Panasonic support.

Why Use the Child Lock?

  • Prevents accidental operation or tampering by children.
  • Ensures safety in busy households.

Summary

Unlocking or activating the Panasonic child lock is simple: just use the correct button sequence for your model. The most common method is pressing “Stop/Reset” three times to unlock, and “Start” three times to lock. If you’re unsure, refer to your user manual or the Panasonic support website for guidance.
