How to Unlock a Samsung Washing Machine: Step-by-Step Guide
Samsung washing machines can lock for several reasons, including the child lock feature, an active wash cycle, or safety mechanisms. Here’s how to unlock your washer depending on the situation:
1. Unlocking Child Lock
- Look for the child lock symbol (often a smiley face or key) on the display.
- Press and hold the Temp and Rinse buttons simultaneously for 3–5 seconds (on most models) until the child lock symbol disappears.
- On models with a navigation dial:
- Turn on the machine, tap the Additional Functions button, use the dial to select Child Lock, and tap Select to turn it off.
2. Unlocking the Door During or After a Cycle.
If the cycle is running:
- Press the Start/Pause button to pause the cycle.
- Wait for the door lock indicator to stop blinking.
- Open the door to add or remove laundry, then close and press Start/Pause to resume.
Note: If the water level or temperature is too high, the door will remain locked until safe to open.
If the cycle is complete but the door is still locked:
- Wait a minute for the lock to release automatically.
- If still locked, unplug the washer for 1–2 minutes, then plug it back in and try again.
- For front-loaders, drain any remaining water using the emergency drain hose behind the small access panel at the bottom front of the machine, then try opening the door.
3. Manual Unlock (If All Else Fails)
- Locate the emergency manual release:
- Open the access panel at the bottom front of the washer.
- Use the emergency pull cord or lever (if equipped) to manually unlock the door.
Tips
- Never force the door open during a cycle—wait for the lock to release automatically to avoid damage.
- Always consult your user manual for model-specific instructions, as button combinations can vary.
Unlocking your Samsung washing machine is usually quick and safe with the right steps. If problems persist, seek professional assistance or contact Samsung support.
